Three GEAR UP partners recently participated in a GEAR UP staff development where they discussed ways to effectively target college and career preparation services to students. These types of collaborations allow GEAR UP to expand services to students, establish an infrastructure of support, and leverage GEAR UP funding.

Adler Planetarium for Teens
The Adler’s Teen Programs focus on providing technical and professional skills, mentorship, and a welcoming learning environment for Chicago high school students. The Adler offers internships, workshops, after-school programs, and more. Whether you’re building a website, programming a robot, blogging about current space science, or facilitating a workshop for other teens, you’ll make an impact here! |
After School Matters
After School Matters provides life-changing after-school and summer program opportunities to more than 15,000 Chicago high school teens each year. |
Bottom Line
Bottom Line helps low-income and first-generation-to-college students get to and through college. Bottom Line is committed to building strong connections with students, providing them with individual support, and ensuring they have the guidance they need to persist and earn a college degree. |
Chicago Botanic Garden
The Chicago Botanic Garden offers programs for Chicago Public School students. Science First is a great learning opportunity, a chance to see the Garden's 385 acres of plants and nature, and a great way to meet other science-curious students. College First is a dynamic paid internship program for eligible Chicago Public High School students consisting of career mentorship, field ecology and conservation science, and college prep and assistance. |

Field Museum for Teens
The Field Museum inspires curiosity about life on Earth while exploring how the world came to be and how we can make it a better place. The Field offers several programs for students:

Genesys Works
At Genesys Works students commit to a year-long program. Their journey begins with an eight-week summer training that includes sessions on business etiquette, conflict resolution and proper communication skills and either an accounting or information technology course. During the school year, students attend regular classes in the morning and work as a paid intern in the afternoon. |
Heartland Alliance
Heartland Alliance - Ending Poverty By working in housing, healthcare, jobs and justice, Heartland offers individuals a range of support that is needed to change their lives, and keep them stable. |
Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement (JA) gives young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world. |
Lurie Children's Hospital
Lurie Children's Hospital hosts Discovering Health Care Careers each summer, a program designed to introduce Latino and African-American students to the healthcare field. Students spend 6 weeks meeting and learning from nurses, doctors, medical imaging specialists, pathologists, physical therapists and more. Lurie Children's has additional resources for teens, including mentoring, summer youth programs and more. |
Yollocalli - National Museum of Mexican Art
Yollocalli is an arts education and career-training program for teens. The Yollocalli model is based on creating a space for youth to partner with practicing artists, access the tools necessary to realize their own vision and build skills as emerging artists. Students interested in taking classes can apply through Yollocalli or After School Matters The National Museum of Mexican Art offers engaging programs for teens that encourage the exploration of art, culture and creativity while helping to develop important life skills. |
One Million Degrees
One Million Degrees believes that when given a solid system of support, every student has the ability to reach his or her full personal and professional potential. Since 2006, One Million Degrees has provided critical supports to help empower hundreds of community college students to succeed in the classroom and beyond. |

YOUmedia is a library and studio space at Chicago Public Library designed specifically for teens.

Youth Guidance
