The iMATHination Conference through the Center for College Access and Success covering best practices in math was held annually from 2007 - 2017. Over the course of the 11 conferences, more STEAM classes were added each year. In 2018, the name of the conference was changed to (STEAM)² Conference to more accurately reflect the content of the conference. The iMATHination pages remain online as a resource and archive.
MATH + imagination = iMATHination
The Center for College Access and Success at Northeastern Illinois University presents its annual mathematics conference each January. This event is a retreat-style, professional development conference for middle and high school educators who teach mathematics and science.
The January 20 - 21, 2017 iMATHination Conference is focused on making diverse learning real in STEM.
The iMATHination Conference provides math, science and technology professional development workshops for middle and high school educators who, primarily, are part of the Center for College Access and Success' network of programs.
The first iMATHination Conference was launched in 2007. It was initially designed to offer our GEAR UP network of teachers from Chicago Public Schools a professional event focused on best practices in mathematics instruction. The first year the Center for College Access and Success offered 7 sessions with content that mirrored what was being taught on the junior high school level which is where our GEAR UP cohort of students began. Over the last several years, the sessions as well as the participants have grown in number.
Each successive year we strive to bring our conference participants sessions, presenters and speakers that not only focus on current pedagogy, but that kindle their creativity and keep the imagination running!
The iMATHination Conference is presented by the Center for College Access and Success (CCAS), Northeastern Illinois University. Founded in 1978, the Center for College Access and Success, formerly the Chicago Teachers' Center develops collaborative partnerships that engage the entire community in helping students to succeed academically and socially.
